create yourself

Stop “Finding Yourself”, Take Life by the Horns and CREATE Yourself

Ever since I was a little girl, I have always heard phrases and sayings from different people, books, magazines and shows on how to “find yourself.” Try different things, explore your options, and look for the things or activities that complete who you are. We hear songs and stories about people trying to look for themselves and waste a lifetime doing so, most eventually reach that place of contentment, of feeling whole but there are still a vast number of people who are continually running around with their heads chopped off. Although it is a good idea to expand your consciousness and try new things, boxing ourselves in with this idea of finding oneself may actually hinder our growth.

“Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.” – George Bernard Shaw

The first time I read this short quote felt like a spark has been fired up in me. What a revelation several words could induce. Create yourself are the two key words in here. We all go through life thinking that there is something out there that we are destined to do, we just have to figure out what it is. I do believe in the romanticism of us finally finding and being able to do what we think we were pre-destined to do but this leaves out a whole lot of searching for us, confining us in this area that has already set rules in how we should do certain things, how we are able to achieve certain goals step by step. But if we just take a moment, step back and stop thinking about finding and shift it into creating, we are opened up to a whole new world of possibilities.

Create yourself. Stop following rules and guidelines that were set up by other people. These do work in the systemization of things, having everything in order and running efficiently but in regards to doing what you really want to do, the only artist in here is you. You create your life and learn through other people’s experiences but you don’t have to follow it step by step as everyone is different. Think of everyone that are happy and content with their lives right now – they have put value and their time into doing what they think would be best for them, what would benefit them in the long run, what really makes them happy, regardless of how much money they have, how many things they have acquired. They stopped looking for what would make them happy, instead they create situations and environments for themselves that would lead them to their goals. Point is: stop waiting or looking for the next best thing, start creating a reality that fits your wants, desires, and needs.

We get trapped in this way of thinking, among other things, that we lose sight that we do have tremendous control over our present and our future. We should remember that we do not have complete control over outside circumstances but each step in our life helps shape ourselves and the world around us.

So go out there and create something beautiful, something uniquely you.
