a Misty Mindfulness Moment
Mindfulness is about being fully present in the moment you are in—right here, right now—without judgment. By practicing mindfulness, we can ground ourselves, helping reduce stress and anxiety. As we continue, I’ll be sharing different mindfulness activities that you can incorporate into your daily life, with the hope of bringing you moments of calm, especially in times of stress.
Mindfulness Activity: Music and Movement
This activity combines two elements: sound and movement. Follow these steps:
- Find Your Comfort Zone: Begin by finding a comfortable position, whether sitting or standing—whatever works best for you.
- Eyes Open or Closed: Choose whether to keep your eyes open or closed. I prefer closing mine, as it helps me focus better, but do what feels right for you.
- Breathe with Intention: Take a few deep breaths to settle in or breathe naturally—whatever feels most comfortable.
- Focus on the Music: Listen to the music with your full attention. If your mind starts to wander or if distractions arise, gently acknowledge them and bring your focus back to the music or your breath.
- Move with the Music: Let the music guide your body. Move in a way that feels natural—whether that’s your arms, hands, legs, hips, face, fingers, or head. Whatever feels right to you is the right movement.
- Embrace Stillness: If you don’t feel like moving at all and just want to listen, that’s perfectly fine too. Stillness is as much a part of the practice as movement.
- Make it Your Own: Remember, there are no set rules for this activity. Adjust it as needed based on what feels best for you in the moment.
- Music Recommendation: I suggest listening to Nocturne by Bor Pro, but feel free to choose any music that resonates with you. I chose this piece because it blends classical and modern styles, showing how two different genres can come together to create something beautiful—much like dialectics.
